Codes of Practice are practical guides to meeting your duties under WHS law, but in some states they are more than guides. They set out how to manage the hazards found in most workplaces, from risk management and consultation through to manual tasks and psychosocial hazards.
In New South Wales and Queensland, you must comply with an approved Code, or manage the risk in a way that gives an equal or higher standard of protection. In the other harmonised states, an approved Code is the minimum standard and is admissible in court as evidence of what was reasonably practicable. Not knowing what applies to your business is not a defence.
This review is based on the NSW Codes of Practice, which align closely with the equivalent Codes adopted in most other states under the model WHS laws.

This review is built on the NSW Codes of Practice. Victoria runs its own Compliance Codes, so if you are in Victoria it is not matched to your jurisdiction. Many of the underlying safety requirements are similar across states, so it still surfaces gaps worth knowing about, and Tracy is clear as you go about which parts apply to you and which do not.
